DSL Wiffle Ball Tournament

Saturday April 5th

Catherine Rooney’s vs. CR Hooligan’s
(1-3)                                   (3-1)

Susan is going to provide me with better highlights since I was busy playing in my own game for a change. Although I know that there is no better way to start off this league than to have these two teams play against one another. Both are just amazing groups of people. I hope you get to know each of them!

Logan House vs. Kid Shelleen’s
(0-4)                          (4-0)

How does it feel Kid Shelleen’s??? After losing seasons in both 2007 Kickball and both seasons of Dodgeball, Kid Shelleen’s comes out swinging heavy with 4 solid wins over Kelly’s Logan House. It was Antoinette Cubeta that shocked everyone with 4 HR’s!! Antoinette I want you to march into work and show this to Cindy (Hi Cindy!!) and have her spread the word about you Wiffle Ball prowess!! Both Dan Walsh and Chris Connelly added a few HR’s a piece to the mix. Logan House could not get the offense going, but we added the entertainment. Joe C came riding in on his bike dressed in a full Leisure Suit (as promised) in time for game 2 of the series and just woke everyone up! I have to give Brad a little grief for giving up the majority of Antoinette’s HR’s. Poorvi was her usual loud and offensive self…I’m just teasing, if any of you have ever met her, she is the sweetest woman I have ever met and she is quiet, but she can hang with the best of ‘em so I like to tease her. Debbie Lutes, back from her bath tub injury (once again, don’t ask) and just as lively and hilarious as ever. She also added some offense for Kid Shelleen’s while Brian Rubin provided the defense.

Toot Our Horns vs. Team Rally Cap
(4-0)                        (0-4)

OK so Toot Our Horns is going to be a team to beat. They have Cappriotti, Lyons, Bowers, Kennedy, Haley, however it was Danielle Hendrie (Triple D), Kristi Massner, and Megan Winchell that really stepped it up for the horns. Sure the guys hit the HR’s, except maybe for Capriotti with his tumble sault, but the gals…the gals make it look good. Team Rally Cap, formerly Visualize Grilled Cheese, lead by Captain Jesse Cyr, gave it their all. I saw them diving all over the place making play after play. Sara, Kristen, and Julia all added their best to the game as well.

Cosmos vs. Scared Hitless
(0-4)              (4-0)

Cosmos lead by Patti Pfieffer was down a few, but managed to put up a team. Speaking of down a few…Caps & Corks get the best of you Jill?? I will put you front and center on the website when you show up to your first Wiffle Ball game :) However the rest of the cosmos team played well with a triple from Patty as well as a great defensive catch. Scott had a HR for Cosmos as did Jeff Vaughn. However it was the offensive onslaught of Scared Hitless that was nothing short of impressive…except for the 5 strikeouts from Gabriel MacConaill. The play of the game was Sara Brannen’s Triple which she proceeded to run out, and around, and over, and I think there was a cartwheel in there somewhere too, I’m not sure…Broc Donovan had 3 lead off HR’s in a row!! David Yeager played great as well. However the most amazing moment was when Kristin Celluci almost hit the road with a monster HR. I mean that thing must have gone 90 feet!

Team Awesome vs. Pizza By Elizabeth’s
(2-2)                         (2-2)

These two teams get it. There was fun jawing back and forth during the game. There where beverages back and forth after the game. Kalai (pronounced “Ka”-“Lie”) King was the entertainment. Apparently his is off the field as well and has played numerous festivals in and around Wilmington as a singer song writer! I have to give him credit for his on the field comments which where hilarious; however he has much to learn about holding onto his bat when batting. I mean the bat went further than the ball! He also tried to bunt, which just puzzled everyone on Pizza By Elizabeth’s and I think his team as well. Ariel Hardy added some tough play for Team Awesome as well as some great ideas after the game! Eric hit a HR for Team Awesome. Pizza by Elizabeth’s lead by owner Betsy Leroy came out in force! This has to be the best place to work in Wilmington folks, they have the best boss in the world and Betsy told me herself, she has the best staff in the world! True story PBE what a special thing you guys have! The pizza is amazing too! Speaking of special, so was the play of Alison Bouchard who had a Triple and Lauren Barrett who caught 2 pop ups. Jim Miller stepped in and added some great effort as pitcher and also had a HR. Ben Leroy left our conversation for a moment to go hit a homer for PBE as well. Oh, and Kara Gildea is AWESOME! :)

WSAH vs. Team 16
(2-2)          (2-2)

Two evenly matched teams…Four hard fought games…one day of Wiffle Ball Madness…said that voice from that guy that does all the movie trailers…remember Movie Trivia returns to Washington Street Ale House next Monday April 14th  with National Lampoon’s Vacation!

Suzy Casey was the first to arrive for WSAH and her early start helped her warm up for the triple she hit. Looking a little “Bad News Bears” Monica Pammer and Steve Temple collided in the outfield, although as Monica tells it Steve collided with her. Kevin tried to start the wave for Washington Street Ale House…a whopping 3 people participated. Susan Temple is responsible for all of the great pictures, thanks Susan! For Team 16 Jared Evens hit 4 HR’s and Mark Staniec was, as usual, a defensive powerhouse. Team 16 Captain Melissa Sadowski was her usual cheery self and added some great play as well!
