About

Yes Pete Boyer is the star of most of these photos, and as Tara.jpgpainful as it is the guy is just that darn photogenic!

Pete has taken being a DSL umpire to another level. He is what makes a great umpire and we have had so many great umpires over the past 3 years such as Larry, Tara, Jimmy, Jeremy, Susan, Capi, Taylor, and so many countless more that have really been the entire reason that DSL exists today! It is a great way to play as many DSL sports as you want for absolutely FREE!

DSL is about a community coming together and deciding to create something special for one another. Not the least of importance is having umpires to officiate the games. DSl is and always will be run by members stepping up and becoming a larger part of what we are trying to do for everyone.

By having our members help with officiating we are able to keep the cost of DSL down for everyone. If we had to pay professional umpires from other sports it would cost way more to play in DSL. However, each and every one of these umpires helps keep the cost down by playing for FREE and getting paid a modest rate per game so that there is a little milk money left over at the end of the season to pay for some beverages after the games during the next season. As the umpires get seasoned and more comfotable with what they are doing...what is the difference between them and "professional umpires"? It is a GREAT system that is created by and for the members!

We Will Train You

Now let’s just face it, there is no such thing as professional trained Kickball and Dodgeball umpires…except in DSL! We will make sure that you learn the rules inside and out and get a feel for what being an umpire is. We are only in our third year but we have learned a lot and we will be able to share our experience with you to help you be a great umpire, while having fun and meeting people!

An Umpire is A Friend

Erika-Umpire.jpgThe whole point of a DSL Umpire is to help the members have fun and play a fair game every week. You Are NOT there to get yelled at. We will go to great lengths up to and including throwing people out of the league for yelling at an umpire. We have had to do it and we are not afraid to support and protect your right to be there to have fun just like everyone else.

There are going to be times when people protest your calls and even yell but if it ever gets to a point where you are done with it you just let one of the Field/Court Managers know and they will have that player removed from the game and if it is really bad Bobby D will completely remove from them from the league.

Feel Free To Go Out!

Rob-Out.jpg

We encourage our umpires to go back to the bar and socialize with everyone else! That is why you are here and it helps the members see that you are a normal person and even feel bad if they yelled at you earlier in the night. It is also not uncommon for an umpire to be treated to a frosty beverage because people genuinely appreciate what you do for this league! Just ask Boyer…he’ll tell ya! We are not encouraging drinking, we are encouraging socializing…what you choose to drink is completely up to you…have a Coke and a smile for all we care but this league is about everryon so by golly get out there and have fun!

*”By golly” is a shout out to my Great Uncle Frank…love you Frank!

Types of DSL Umpires

Being a full time umpire means that you are committed to helping out with at least one game every week. Most of the time you will do more than one game per week, but all in all you are committed to being on the schedule every week.

Reserve

This means that you are not committed to every week but are happy to fill in every once in a while when we are in a pinch or as an extra set of hands during the playoffs. This is a great way to make back that registration money and if you only do 5 games out of the course of a season you have already paid for your membership and then some!
