Delaware Sports League is an Adult Co-ed Sports League that helps adults 21 and over meet new people, as well as get out of the house and do something fun... like play a kids game!

Mission
DSL exists to help the people of Delaware be healthy, make friends, feel welcome through all of the members, sponsors, friends, and partners that we are so proud to have in our network of people committed to this concept. The first year and a half has been an amazing ride of growth and experience.

We like to say that when we act on behalf of something beyond ourselves, limits do not exist. It seems that the infinite possibilities that the right opportunities can provide stretch as far as our dreams will allow us to reach. It is our choice to make our world a better place and we believe strongly the only way that we are going to do it is together…

Company Overview
Delaware Sports League began in May of 2007 as a Kickball Tournament. We started with just 10 teams and we are being generous when we say 100+ participants.

On July 16th, 2007 just two months after the start of the inaugural Kickball Tournament, we had the first ever DSL Kickball Regular Season. In just 2 months we had grown to 20 teams and over 360 members!

Since that time Delaware Sports League has grown to include Dodgeball, WIFFLE® Ball, Bowling, Coed Flag Football, and many more sports, events and outings. In just over 5 years Delaware Sports League has grown to 4 locations statewide that includes more than 4250 total active members annually between the ages of 21-60 and we are darn proud of it!

Description
The way we see it, DSL is a tool that helps each of us find the key that unlocks the doorway to the playfulness of youth. It is about finding friendship and even love. It is about just going out and doing a little something we all used to know how to do...play. Most of all it is about having fun.

We originally got the idea from other cities that have similar leagues…this is just our version of it. Basically, Delaware Sports League is a way to go out, get some exercise, and hang out with other people in the league that, like you, like to go out and run around for a while and have some fun. Then afterwards go hang out to that night's Feature Bar and socialize.

(YOU MUST BE 21 OR OVER TO BE A MEMBER OF DELAWARE SPORTS LEAGUE)

Some people call them Sports and Social Clubs. We just call it DSL and it is all about having some clean healthy fun, and most importantly making new friends.

Here's how it works:

Most of the games we play are team-based.

For team-based games you will always have 3 choices:

  • Start a team
  • Join somebody else's team that already has created a team
  • Just sign up by yourself and we will place you on a team
(Other leagues charge more money for “Free Agents”…we think that is silly)

So when you have a game, you show up at the game site and play whichever sport is in season. Games are usually on week nights and you play one game a week. In 2010 we began to have weekend options as well!

DSL is about having the courage to be open to the notion that when you play a game it does not have to be that those people are "the comptetion". DSL is about realizing that it is just a game and those people that are not on your team could be really nice people, or a great business contact, or even a viable mate…ok so I just wanted to say “viable mate”…but let’s be honest this is a great way to meet people for whatever reason that may be.

Which leads us to…

It's all about the people!

So here is where the social aspect comes in… After the game you go out to one of our sponsor bars enjoy some specials available only to Delaware Sports League members. We’re not about getting wasted on a weeknight and skipping work the next day. We just want you to go out meet your fellow players and enjoy your discounts for being part of DSL. You might as well enjoy some Bud Light discounts while you are out at the bar, right? It’s kind of our way of saying thanks for letting us throw the party....

The DSL Games After The Games: Presented by The Delaware Lottery and are FREE to active DSL Members at the feature bar after every game!

Lottery DEAfter every game there is a feature bar and hang out. Local Restaurants have joined our mission to help you have fun and make friends by offering Specials. In Wilmington and at The Beach we have  DSL Games After The Games - Presented by The Delaware Lottery. Hosted by local entertainer Kalai King, this is a series of Trivia games, rock paper scissors, cornhole, washers and all kinds of activities designed to help you get to know and have fun with as many people as possible.

It’s all pretty silly…but it’s also fun. You will be able to win prizes like Lottery tickets and other prizes provided by The Delaware Lottery. We have been working together to create new stuff so that it is easier for members to get to know one another.

Think of it as a built in ice breaker

Who does what?

out-and-aboutOur job is to be the Organizer. We put together the infrastructure that keeps the machine well-oiled and fun. You know take care of the legal stuff, secure the field, get the T-Shirts, provide the equipment, handle the communications, maintain the website, maintain standings, post highlights and pictures, etc...Our job is to make sure that this is fun and organized every week and to that you have the information you need when you need it.

We also see it as our responsibility to put together DSL Special Events and Outings to get everyone together off the field as well. Starting in 2010 we began offering weekly and monthly get together’s like Cocktail Class. We have our Annual ROXIE Awards and The Dewey Beach Scavenger Hunt.

We do Charity Tournaments like The Best Buddies Kickball Tournament to kick off the Kickball Season every spring. Yes I made that pun on purpose. Ahhh, I entertain me…and I digress…

We will offer Outings like The DSL Bus Trip to Point to Point, Phillies Bus Trips, and whatever else we come up with. You can talk to members who have been on these trips on the various Trip Pages…you’ll see that when we do a trip…WE DO A TRIP!

All YOU have to do is bring a smile and an openness to the notion of playing just for fun and meeting new people...We take care of the rest!

It’s a pretty simple concept, but it works out great!

I love doing this. Watching people making friends and having fun is a feeling that I really cannot describe. You just have to experience it for yourself. The reality is, we all can. This only works if each of us decides to come into DSL with the purpose of building a communty, having fun, making friends and making memories.

We want to make a difference in people's lives by simply being a happy part of it. We all have our lives to live. We all are in different positions in our lives and doing so many different things. We have so much to offer one another it only we decide to be open to one another.

There are so many people that have come together to be an active part of our community which is what has made DSL such a successful organization. From the umpires and managers to the member that holds a Beef & Beer for a neighbor in need,  it is all part of being a strong community and what we hope to accomplish with Delaware Sports League.

Join DSL with that in mind and I think you will find something you will really like.

Here's to many fun memories and great friends!

Please Drink Responsibly

It is the policy of Delaware Sports League that all members and/or those participating in Delaware Sports League events must be 21 years of age or older.

In an effort to foster a reputation of responsible business practices we have contacted the Delaware Alcoholic Beverage and Tobacco Enforcement Office in order to comply with all regulations associated with the promotion of events involving the consumption of alcohol. It is the goal of Delaware Sports League to be an example for like organizations as a business committed to the promotion of responsible drinking practices in order to protect ourselves, our members, and our sponsors.

On behalf of DSL, our sponsors, and The Delaware Office of Highway Safety Please Do NOT Drink & Drive. It is easy to find a Designated Driver, and a Taxi is just a phone call away.

With a little planning, everyone lives to have fun another day!
